If any of my readers have not heard of The Longdendale
Community Group, may I suggest you take a look at their site (http://www.longdendalecg.org.uk/) It’s not a ‘great site’ in the graphic
sense, but it reports the aims and achievements of a dedicated group of residents who were forged on the
anvil of divisive issues and who felt excluded from democratic participation
in the decisions that directly affected them, their
families, their community and their environment made by Tameside Council
Despite taking their objections and a petition signed by
over 3000 residents to Downing Street, the group was not successful in stopping
the building of the Hattersley TESCO superstore, however they have been
successful in halting TESCO'S latest application to have unrestricted access
for deliveries to the store.
This
campaign was successful - thanks to the group’s ability to garner the wishes of
local people and collectively find the time to communicate with councillors
and the planners.
Their present concern is to oppose Tameside councils proposal to construct an industrial estate on green belt land north of Hyde Road and on the playing fields and wooded walk and cycle track,
south of Hyde Road.

It is the councils plan to destroy what little of open
aspect the people of Hattersley have left by concreting over this area of ‘green
belt’ ostensibly for employment led development for research, light and general industrial
purposes, and distribution.
So having stopped TESCO'S plan for 24hr - 7 Days a week distribution on one side of Hyde road, the council now are inviting companies to do the same on the opposite side of Hyde road!
Beggars belief, doesn't it?
